Students are introduced to our services via referral or large group recruitment events. During a 20-minute introductory session with an advisor to build rapport and trust, students create a free DiscoverU Student Portal account, which includes the FLO Match Survey. Advisors take time to get to know each student's interests and goals.

Advisors reach out to parents to introduce themselves and DiscoverU, as well as set the stage for student FLO participation. Students submit a waiver and Financial Aid Form, and with the guidance of their FLO Advisor, identify at least one FLO they would like to apply to. Students receive automated alerts when that FLO's application opens, and the advisor makes a plan to reconnect with the student at that time.

FLO Advisors work with the student to apply to their FLO(s) of choice. They are on hand to role play interview techniques; assist in resume creation; edit essays; or coach students through the process of requesting a transcript. Every FLO has different components, but all mirror the college application process and require students to take healthy risks.

HOORAY! Students now work closely with their FLO Advisors to brainstorm, problem solve, and plan for their FLO experience. Advisors connect with parents to ensure buy-in and answer any questions. Students complete the Accepted Student Form, formally request financial aid, and begin fundraising or making payments toward their balance.

Students at this stage have completed any post- acceptance tasks for their FLO(s). DiscoverU books travel and hosts students and families at our Family Bon Voyage Event, where they confirm transportation & FLO logistics, pay final balances, and meet fellow FLOsters headed to similar destinations. Students receive automated and personalized reminders to ensure they are ready to go with the FLO.

Students embark on the experience of a lifetime! Whether they are headed across the globe or around the corner, DiscoverU is on hand to handle missed flights, nervous parents, and first-day jitters. Our Summer Support protocols ensure FLOsters are coached throughout the entire process. Upon their return, students complete the Post-FLO Survey to process their experience and then do it all again next year!
