IAN STEWART

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES MANAGER, SILA NANOTECHNOLOGIES

Formerly a chemist at ExxonMobil, Ian currently heads up the Strategic Initiatives group at Sila Nanotechnologies, a next generation battery materials company dedicated to accelerating energy transformation for a more sustainable future. Ian has taken on roles in research, market analysis, and project planning. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University Of Michigan, a PhD from Berkeley, and performed post-doctoral research at Caltech. In additional to scientific articles and patents, Ian co-authored a chemistry question-and-answer book, The Handy Chemistry Answer Book, to help bring students of all ages into the molecular world. During his formal education he routinely sought out opportunities to serve as a teacher for others; during his time at Michigan, he designed and implemented a summer chemistry curriculum for high school students. Recalling the effect of this experience on a diverse group of students drives him to advance DiscoverU’s mission today, particularly in the STEM fields. Ian recognizes that unique learning experiences were key to his pursuit of an education and career in the sciences, and is working to help provide Fantastic Learning Opportunities to Houston’s youth.

Charles Munsell is an assurance partner in PwC’s Global Energy & Mining practice. Over the past 15 years, he has served a number of high profile multinational energy and industrial products companies. Charles has extensive experience leading large, multi-national and complex teams. He is highly accomplished when it comes to sharing business knowledge with his clients and providing insights on their business issues. Charles has a wide range of experience working through challenging and complex technical accounting issues including acquisitions, disposals and carve outs, and first-year Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Charles has demonstrated a calm demeanor and pragmatism in collaborating with clients to resolve accounting issues. Charles received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Charles’ passion for helping others who, by no fault of their own, haven’t been afforded unique learning opportunities continues to keep him engaged in advancing DiscoverU’s mission.
JAMIE BAILEY

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Jamie is an Executive Director of Finance for Baylor College of Medicine with over 15 years of experience in providing strategic and hands-on finance and accounting leadership, including responsibilities for financial planning and analysis, reporting and financial business development. Mr. Bailey received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and an Executive MBA from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Baylor, Jamie served as a business advisory consultant providing strategic financial solutions to complex business concepts to senior leadership and board of directors for many global clients. Jamie’s passion and enthusiasm for DiscoverU stems from the desire to help cultivate and provide growth opportunities for the underserved youth in our community.
LYN GREENWOOD

GLOBAL PRODUCT MANAGER, EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION

Lyn has over 20 years of experience at ExxonMobil Chemical in a variety of roles in sales and marketing, supply chain management, and financial planning. Ms. Greenwood has been part of the Houston community since 1998, after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University. She has two children enrolled in Spring Branch ISD schools and is an active volunteer, most recently on the Valley Oaks Elementary PTA Executive Board. Lyn has sought out opportunities to mentor others, both professionally and with community involvement. Through her volunteer experiences, she has witnessed the disparity in opportunity based on background and is passionate about doing what she can to close the gap and provide equal opportunity for all students.

Eric Bartz began his career in supply chain in 2005 with a focus in materials and systems. Since then, he has held numerous supply chain roles in the offshore drilling sector with a focus on change management and team building. Eric is a seasoned fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, having surpassed the $100,000 mark in 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science from the University of St. Thomas, and is currently pursuing his Executive MBA at Rice University's Jones Graduate School of Business.

Karly Buchanan is Human Resources Professional currently working at ConocoPhillips. She provides strategic and day-to day HR support to her client groups focused on employee engagement and talent development including coaching and mentoring. Karly has over 20 years of International Human Resources and expatriate tax experience. Karly has worked in leadership roles at Ernst & Young, Deloitte, BP and Baker Hughes prior to joining ConocoPhillips. She holds Bachelor of Science from University of Kazakhstan and executive MBA from the Rice University. During her college years Karly benefited from international student exchange programs such as Freedom Support Act sponsored by US congress and APTEA sponsored by the Australian government. These programs provided Karly an opportunity to live abroad, acquire knowledge, life skills and amazing friendships. She spent an early part of her career traveling internationally and living abroad. She is passionate about continuous learning and providing various experiences that contribute to acquiring knowledge and personal growth.

Megan is a Business Change & Improvement Manager, with an eclectic and successful 20+ year track record in facilitating the complex objectives of international oil and gas, commercial real estate, and Big 4 organizations. Megan’s professional development and contributions have been varied, with a focus on acting as a key business partner to drive a robust continuous improvement strategy, centered upon introducing world-class business processes, minimizing risk, executing numerous, often simultaneous transformations, and confidently navigating challenging situations. Megan obtained an MBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and studied Accounting at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Megan is passionate about education with years of experience as a volunteer tutor. Through her life experiences of traveling and volunteering, Megan is very thankful for her life broadening experiences and is dedicated to helping all interested students access Fantastic Learning Opportunities.

Andrew Kapral holds a B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University and a M.Ed. from the University of Houston (UH). He anticipates receiving his doctoral degree in higher education leadership and policy studies from the University of Houston later this year. As director of the Engaged Data Science initiative in collaboration with The Honors College, Andrew develops and implement innovative project-based programming with the goals of promoting data literacy and expanding the use of data science tools in K-12 education and community engagement. Andrew supports DiscoverU because he has seen first-hand how students attending FLOs gain social-emotional skills that set them on the path to post-secondary success.

Mudit is a Business Leader with Publicis Sapient responsible for their North American Energy and Commodities business. As a strategic and growth-oriented leader, Mudit has extensive global experience in business development, P&L management, organization building and growing new leaders. Mudit has a proven track record for leading large culturally diverse teams, creating a nurturing and productive work environment that encourages mutual respect and inclusion. Mudit holds a MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore & is a forward thinker focused on building strong ties between the organization and the community, fostering the spirit of involvement and giving back amongst team members. Mudit has been an active volunteer in the public education space in Texas, drawing community and legislative attention to driving student centric outcomes. Mudit is an advocate for giving all students, regardless of their background, a well-rounded education, an opportunity to play to their potential and grow up to become responsible adults who can contribute back to society.

Previously Alison spent 15 years in financial services in various positions at Sentinel Trust, Black Stone Minerals and Goldman Sachs. Alison holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Hampton University and her Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Alison, a Mississippi native, moved to Houston, TX over a decade ago and has been very active in the Houston community in addition to her professional career. Alison is passionate about education as well as helping her clients reach their financial goals which will allow them to implement programs that will help their teachers, students and staff. Her enthusiasm for DiscoverU stems from wanting all students to have access to life changing experiences despite their background.

Holly Price is a management consultant with McKinsey & Company and focuses much of her work in the People & Organizational Performance practice, helping global companies navigate culture transformations and integrate Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion goals into their daily operations. Holly graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Economics and a BBA in Finance. She graduated from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business with her MBA focused on entrepreneurship and social sector strategy. She is a native Houstonian and lives in the Near Northside with her husband and two children. She joined DiscoverU’s board in 2021 and was previously an Education Pioneers fellow with DiscoverU in 2016.
