Ian is a chemist working at ExxonMobil, who has, over the past seven years, taken on roles in research, market analysis, and project planning. Prior to joining ExxonMobil, he completed a Bachelor’s degree at the University Of Michigan, a PhD at Berkeley, and post-doctoral research at Caltech. In additional to scientific articles and patents, Ian co-authored a chemistry question-and-answer book, The Handy Chemistry Answer Book, to help bring students of all ages into the molecular world. During his formal education he routinely sought out opportunities to serve as a teacher for others; during his time at Michigan, he designed and implemented a summer chemistry curriculum for high school students. Recalling the effect of this experience on a diverse group of students drives him to advance DiscoverU’s mission today, particularly in the STEM fields. Ian recognizes that unique learning experiences were key to his pursuit of an education and career in the sciences, and is working to help provide Fantastic Learning Opportunities to Houston’s youth.
Jamie is an Executive Director of Finance for Baylor College of Medicine with over 15 years of experience in providing strategic and hands-on finance and accounting leadership, including responsibilities for financial planning and analysis, reporting and financial business development. Mr. Bailey received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and an Executive MBA from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Baylor, Jamie served as a business advisory consultant providing strategic financial solutions to complex business concepts to senior leadership and board of directors for many global clients. Jamie’s passion and enthusiasm for DiscoverU stems from the desire to help cultivate and provide growth opportunities for the underserved youth in our community.
Eric Bartz serves as Director of Supply Chain over the Western Hemisphere for Seadrill, an international offshore drilling contractor. Eric’s role at Seadrill includes responsibility for purchasing, logistics, inventory, vendor master, and various supply chain processes and systems. He began his career in supply chain in 2005 with a focus in materials and systems. Since then, he has held numerous supply chain roles in the offshore drilling sector with a focus on change management and team building. Eric is a seasoned fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, having surpassed the $100,000 mark in 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science from the University of St. Thomas.
April Greenhouse is Deputy General Counsel for Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County Texas. Ms. Greenhouse received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston and law degree from South Texas College of Law. She has worked with many different public agencies within the Houston area and gained over 11 years of local public law experience. April’s community service involvement is focused on serving low income individuals and empowering children through education. Her enthusiasm for DiscoverU stems from the desire to raise awareness, educate and develop more diverse leadership within our community; and continue a legacy to “lift while climbing.”
Lyn has over 20 years of experience at ExxonMobil Chemical in a variety of roles in sales and marketing, supply chain management, and financial planning. Ms. Greenwood has been part of the Houston community since 1998, after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University. She has two children enrolled in Spring Branch ISD schools and is an active volunteer, most recently on the Valley Oaks Elementary PTA Executive Board. Lyn has sought out opportunities to mentor others, both professionally and with community involvement. Through her volunteer experiences, she has witnessed the disparity in opportunity based on background and is passionate about doing what she can to close the gap and provide equal opportunity for all students.
Ritesh is a successful business leader in the Information Technology (IT) industry, with unique experiences leading IT innovation in K-12 education systems. As President of Virtuas, a Public Benefit Corporation, Ritesh and his team strive to improve and automate organizations through the innovative use of technology. While growing up, Ritesh personally witnessed the disadvantages that impacted students who lacked access to life-wide learning and collegiate role models. As a STEM Career Panelist at DiscoverU’s First Annual FLO Alumni Summit in 2015, Ritesh was deeply inspired by DiscoverU’s mission and the students whose lives are being impacted through participation in Fantastic Learning Opportunities. In addition to now serving on DiscoverU’s Board, Ritesh is an Alumnus of Leadership Houston and a past Board member of NAMI. Ritesh holds a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Houston.
Charles Munsell is an assurance partner in PwC’s Global Energy & Mining practice. Over the past 15 years, he has served a number of high profile multinational energy and industrial products companies. Charles has extensive experience leading large, multi-national and complex teams. He is highly accomplished when it comes to sharing business knowledge with his clients and providing insights on their business issues. Charles has a wide range of experience working through challenging and complex technical accounting issues including acquisitions, disposals and carve outs, and first-year Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Charles has demonstrated a calm demeanor and pragmatism in collaborating with clients to resolve accounting issues. Charles received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Charles’ passion for helping others who, by no fault of their own, haven’t been afforded unique learning opportunities continues to keep him engaged in advancing DiscoverU’s mission.
Dr. Kimberlin Sturgis is a champion for equity and access. The that end, in 2017 she joined the Discover U Board and founded Canji Consulting. Canji"s mission is to connect companies with their communities through diversity and inclusion and workforce development. She started her firm with 17+ years of experience in formal and informal K-12 education. Prior to that, Kimberlin was the Manager of Curriculum and Evaluation at the Children’s Museum of Houston (CMH) and held various positions in the Houston Independent School District. She also worked as an Environmental Chemist and proudly served in the Air Force Reserves. Kimberlin holds degrees from Alcorn State University (BS in Chemistry), Prairie View A&M University (MEd in Curriculum and Instruction and PhD in Educational Leadership), and Rice University (MBA with an entrepreneurship concentration).
Stephanie is a senior transformation leader and executive with a proven track record of delivering impact across multiple industries - distribution, software, government, telecom, and pharmaceutical/life sciences. She specializes in developing and delivering organizational capabilities in the areas of commercial transformation, pricing and revenue management, analytics, sales, marketing and IT. Stephanie also has extensive experience in management consulting. She has a passion for children and education based missions and believes in the ability to change the trajectory of a child’s life through Fantastic Learning Opportunities.
Andrew directs educational outreach and assessment projects for the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute at the University of Houston. He has spent his career working to improve STEM education in the Houston area as a classroom teacher, teacher trainer, project manager, and researcher. His past work includes leadership for several large-scale STEM education outreach programs including the STEM Teaching Equity Project, University of Houston Regional Science Collaborative, Science & Engineering Fair of Houston, Mars Rover Celebration, Rice Elementary Model Science Lab, and TAKScopes (now STEMscopes). His research interests focus issues of access to post-secondary STEM education, preparation and support of K12 STEM teachers, and new models for assessing student learning and interest in STEM fields. He and his wife (Jennifer Stephan Kapral) are longtime supporters of DiscoverU and its mission to expand access to high quality out-of-school learning opportunities. Andrew holds degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University (BA in philosophy & political science) and the University of Houston (MEd in curriculum and instruction) where he is also currently completing a PhD in educational policy.
Alison is the owner/operator of Apex Leadership Co, a company that provides fundraising solutions to schools and nonprofits in the Houston Area. Previously Alison spent 15 years in financial services in various positions at Sentinel Trust, Black Stone Minerals and Goldman Sachs. Alison holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Hampton University and her Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Alison, a Mississippi native, moved to Houston, TX over a decade ago and has been very active in the Houston community in addition to her professional career. Alison is passionate about education as well as helping her clients reach their financial goals which will allow them to implement programs that will help their teachers, students and staff. Her enthusiasm for DiscoverU stems from wanting all students to have access to life changing experiences despite their background.
